CAG and the M-Prize International Chamber Arts Competition at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance announce a new partnership in which the Grand Prize Winner of the annual M-Prize Competition will be offered management by CAG, receiving the full scope of CAG’s management services as they join the CAG roster. In addition, any first place M-Prize laureate ensemble in the strings, winds or open categories will be offered automatic entry into the CAG Competition Semifinals in mid-October of that calendar year.

M-Prize has established itself as the world’s largest chamber arts competition with a grand prize of $100,000, additional prizes totaling $109,000 and performances on the University Musical Society’s Chamber Arts Series and at National Sawdust, among others. Based at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance, M-Prize aims to evolve the breadth and depth of the chamber arts field and includes an open division for ensembles with mixed instrumentation and genre-crossing repertoire. Former grand prize winners of M-Prize include the Calidore String Quartet (2016) and Russia-based folk quartet, Russian Renaissance (2017).

The partnership of CAG and M-Prize evolved out of their shared goal to discover the most outstanding young chamber ensembles and to help launch and advance the careers of these groups. Additionally, both organizations openly welcome both traditional and non-traditional musicians who preserve and/or expand the chamber music canon. Numerous M-Prize laureate ensembles are featured on the CAG roster including, the Donald Sinta Quartet and Argus Quartet (as a result of the October 2017 CAG competition), as well as the Verona Quartet (2016 M-Prize 2nd place—senior strings) and PUBLIQuartet (2017 M-Prize semi-finalist—senior open).

The 2018 M-Prize Competition will be held May 3—6, 2018 in Ann Arbor, MI. Applications are now being accepted, with a deadline of Monday, January 15, 2018. Complete information, including eligibility, repertoire, and application materials are available on the M-Prize website.
