Praised by The New York Times for his “unmistakable virtuosity” on the marimba and a wide variety of percussion instruments, Bulgarian-born Svet Stoyanov is a winner of the 2003 Concert Artists Guild International Competition. He captivates audiences with his dynamic concerto performances, his riveting recital presentations and the elegance of his chamber music collaborations.

Featured on the cover of SYMPHONY Magazine’s annual “Emerging Artists” issue, Mr. Svet Stoyanov recently returned from Bulgaria where he was invited to perform with the National Radio Symphony Orchestra.  He has performed under the baton of Pierre Boulez, Oliver Knussen, James Conlon, John Adams, Gerard Schwarz, Leon Fleisher, Gustav Meier, Brad Lubman, Jose-Luis Novo and Skitch Henderson, amongst others.  In 2008 Mr. Stoyanov returned to Carnegie Hall for a performance of Phillip Glass’ Concerto Fantasy for Two Timpanists and Orchestra with the New York Youth Symphony.  He has also performed this work with timpanist Jonathan Haas and the following orchestras: the Chicago Symphony at the Ravinia Festival; the American Symphony Orchestra at Avery Fisher Hall (Lincoln Center debut); the Seattle Symphony at Benaroya Hall and the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall.  Mr. Stoyanov’s performance of the Schwantner Percussion Concerto with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra was hailed as “spectacular” (The Capital).

In February 2009, Mr. Stoyanov released his debut recording on CAG Records entitled Percussive Counterpoint, featuring  his own transcription of Steve Reich's. Electric Counterpoint for marimba and vibes, as well as a video performance of Thierry de Mey's Musique de Tables — a theatrical work "Ballet" for 3 sets of hands —featured in enhanced CD.  Fanfare Magazine’s rave review notes his “effortless virtuosity adapts itself completely to each composer’s form of expression.”

Recent percussion recitals include concerts at the Orange County Performing Arts Center as part of the Informally Yours Series, the NYC Downtown River to River Festival’s “Summer Stars” series, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Emilia Romagna and Made in America, Festivals, Merkin Concert Hall, California’s Jose Iturbi Gold Medal Series and the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music.  An active and passionate chamber musician, Svet Stoyanov works with violinist Moni Simeonov (The SemiDuo project), and also a Two Piano/Two Percussion quartet called Hammer/Klavier, which has performed at the Chautauqua Festival, SUNY Purchase Performing Arts Center and the Staller Center at Stony Brook University in New York.

Mr. Stoyanov is the Director of Percussion Studies and Professor of Percussion at the Frost School of Music, Universty of Miami, FL. In addition to his diverse performance career, Mr. Stoyanov is actively involved with educational outreach and presents numerous clinics and workshops. Recent events have brought him to Michigan State University, Central Michigan University, Indiana University Bloomington, Towson University and Cleveland State University.

Svet Stoyanov earned his Bachelor’s degree from the Peabody Institute and his Master’s degree from the Yale School of Music, studying at both schools with contemporary music virtuoso Robert van Sice.
