Vision Duo (violinist Ariel Horowitz and percussionist Britton-René Collins) and Chromic Duo (toy pianists and multimedia artists Lucy Yao and Dorothy Chan) explore our experience of time in three musical chapters centering the past, future and present. Starting in the past, Olivier Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time – a masterpiece from the Western Classical 20th-century canon – explores the concept of immortality. Visual art will be projected onto the walls of Merkin Hall as the artists move from Messiaen to the future, featuring their own original compositions, improvisations, and selections from the Duos’ respective touring programs. The present concludes the program with the Messiaen reimagined, symbolic of the convergence of past and future. Amidst Vision and Chromic’s soundscapes, the audience will be invited to join this reflection via QR code to project their own text onto the walls of Merkin Hall and journey with the performers to the end of the show.
