A huge force of performers convenes to celebrate the season’s close with chamber works of orchestral scale. Stravinsky's vigorous "Dumbarton Oaks" Concerto is paired with music that inspired him: Bach's ebullient Third Brandenburg Concerto. CMS eagerly awaits the performance of commanding mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe in the role of Haydn's tragic heroine Arianna. Mendelssohn’s youthful string sinfonia then leads to the final completed masterpiece of Mozart, his immortal Clarinet Concerto, finished only weeks before his death.

Program:

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750) — Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G major, BWV 1048

Igor Stravinsky (1882–1971) — Concerto in E-flat major for Chamber Orchestra, "Dumbarton Oaks"

Joseph Haydn (1732–1809) — Arianna a Naxos, Cantata for Voice, String Quintet, and Harpsichord, Hob. XXVIb:2
(arr. Jaffe) (1790)

Felix Mendelssohn (1809–1847) — Sinfonia No. 13 in C minor for Strings

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791) — Concerto in A major for Clarinet and Orchestra, K. 622
